The Da Vinci Code is a publishing sensation. The world seems to be divided between those who have read it and those who have heard about it and then again between those who think it's a work of genius and those who think its theory is heretical balderdash.

The story, it can be no secret, concerns the Holy Grail -- what it is and where it is. The Catholic Church is upset by the suggestion that Jesus Christ was married and that his bloodline survives to this day. As an atheist I am indifferent. As a reader I couldn't stop turning the pages of Dan Brown's book.

Now there is to be a film and with Ron Howard directing and Tom Hanks starring all will be well and exciting too. I am thrilled to be working with them both for the first time. An extra delight is that this Hollywood studio movie is being filmed in Europe and for most of the shooting this summer, I shall be able to live at home in London. I start rehearsing at Shepperton Studios on May 3rd.

I'm thinking of re-designing this blog into something a little more aesthetically pleasing like this or this! The themes would obviously be of Silverfoxes. However, I need some non-copyrighted photos or pictures to work on. The works that are published on this page will be licensed under the Creative Commons after I've modified them to suit the design of this blog and yes, I will attribute the photos to the model(s) and photographer(s)!

The photograph or picture doesn't have to be a potrait. Side views, back views, diagonal views, scenic views, sexy views are ok, nude photos are not. Well, not for posting on this blog but if you really must, I'll view them! Ha! Photos of solo Silverfoxes or a Silverfox and his partner or groups of Silverfoxes would do nicely.

There are close to 60,000 members (although there seems to be an indication of a little over 100,000 registered users) as of the review date of Mar 26, 2005 and it is still growing! At any one time, there are a few hundred people logged in to SD so your chances of messaging or chatting with someone is very high.

I'm an admirer of simplicity. Silverdaddies doesn't try to do too many things at one go on a given page and for that, I say well done! The choice of colors is easy on the eyes and so is the choice of font size. One minor nitpick - SD could include an option for changing the font size during the registration phase since some Silverfoxes may prefer a larger font size.

Features for non-paying members

Non-paying members can search for people via many means (e.g. through the criteria in the profiles such as age, location or a combination of them) and SD even lets you sort your search by age, newly created profiles or last updated profiles.

You can even message members but that's limited to 2 messages a day for non-paying members. SD has also restricted the posting of e-mail addresses on your profile for non-paying members, so if you want to contact someone, send them a message out of your 2 available ones. Prioritize I say!

SD also has 2 interesting chat programs built into the website. The more established chat or Chat #1 as I shall call it, is a simple text chat (or IRC for those who're familiar with this). The beauty of Chat #1 is that it allows you to view the SD profile of the person that you're chatting with, simply by right clicking on his name and choosing "View Profile". Chat #2 is still experimental at this stage - it allows you to have video chats on top of your normal text chats! The quality and implementation is still not very satisfactory so we'll see how Henrik works this out.

The full suite of features for paying members may be enticing, but the non-paying features are good enough as far as I'm concerned!

Inretrospect - Silverfox Admirer is a growing blog that can do with improvements in several areas. It's user-friendly, contains useful links, has interesting puter lessons and gives you a lesson in international news through Silverfoxes! [Puters] Good and free software for Windows

A friend was asking if there were any good and free softwares out there for Windows XP. I said that there were lots and it really depended on his needs. I also promised to post a short list here so here goes:

Grisoft AVG - Anti-virus software. Scroll down and get the free version, not the trial version.
ZoneAlarm Firewall - Think of a firewall as a security mechanism that helps lock or close your open windows and doors to your computer.
Firefox - Web browser extraordinaire. Few problems with spywares and adwares when compared with Internet Explorer. It's often touted for its pop-up blocking abilities too.
TugZip - For opening files with extensions like ZIP, ARC, GZ, RAR, TAR etc.
OpenOffice - If you don't wish to fork out lots of money for Microsoft Office, OpenOffice is your best alternative. It opens most Word, Excel and Powerpoint files and even allows you to save your word processing, spreadsheets, presentations as Microsoft Office or PDF files. Take a look the screenshots to get a better idea.

What happens if you're using a browser that doesn't support RSS feeds like MSIE? Short of downloading a feed reader and creating more clutter on your desktop, I suggest you sign up for a free account on Yahoo or MSN if you don't already have one. It's not bad too considering that they give you a few hundreds of MB of space for your e-mail. I'll illustrate how this is done with Yahoo:

Getting Live News Feeds on Yahoo!:

Step (1) - Go to http://my.yahoo.com/ and sign up for an account if you don't already have one.

Step (2) - Once you've signed up, armed with your user identity and password, go back to http://my.yahoo.com/ and sign in.

Step (3) - Come to http://silverfoxadmirer.blogspot.com/ and click on this button (go to the right column of the page and scroll down).

Step (4) - It will bring you to a page that looks something like this

Step (5) - Click on "Add"

Step (6) - Then "Back to previous page"

Step (7) - This will bring you back to the main "My Yahoo!" page. Scroll down to the bottom of the window and you should see this

Essentially, it shows you what the title of the latest blog/article is and even when it was last updated. You can tweak around with the "edit" buttons or the "Change layout" button on your My Yahoo! page. I may create another tutorial on that another day if there's demand and if I'm able to find the time.

Why yes there is! Enter the news feed! If you spot any of these images

or images containing "RSS" or "Atom" or "XML" in it, you've found the source of these feeds!

If you're using a web browser that supports news feeds like Firefox, just add on the "feedburner" or "XML" or "RSS" links to your bookmarks. I'll illustrate how it works on Firefox.

Getting Live News Feeds on FireFox 101:

Step (1) - Go to http://www.getfirefox.com/, download Firefox and install it.

Step (2) - Run Firefox and surf to http://silverfoxadmirer.blogspot.com/.

Step (3) - You should see the following icon -- -- at the bottom of your firefox browser when you're here.

Step (4) - Click on that icon like so

Yahoo Messenger - An instant messaging (IM) service created by Yahoo (you need to apply for a Yahoo account which is free). Simple to use and supports video chats if you have a webcam.
ICQ - Another very popular instant messaging software. Has hundreds of millions of subscribers. It's not very usable as it contains TOO MANY UNECESSARY FEATURES in my opinion. However, it does have a very simple and straightforward web equivalent at this LINK.
AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) - Another popular instant messaging software from AOL. No, it doesn't require you to have an AOL account. Lots of users.
MSN Messenger - IM from Microsoft. Simple and straightforward. Very usable. I must admit I have not been using this but it was very user-friendly.
ICUII - You need to PAY for this videochat software. It's an online community evolving around picture messaging and video chats. The software allows you to send quick messages (i.e. webcam photo snapshots/audio/video clips with text messages) to others. It has gay channels (called directories) that includes one for gay seniors! Large user base (in the hundreds to a thousand during peak hours). Just be aware that a good number of users and in for online quickies. It has also recently incorporated the ability to send messages to popular IMs like Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, AIM and ICQ.
ISPQ - Another popular PAY videochat software. Has gay communities as well but not a dedicated silverfox channel unlike ICUII. Has hundreds of users during peak hours. The user-interface isn't very user-friendly though. Can be rather sleazy at times too like ICUII.

I'm in the process of moving the links from Silverfoxes Resource Page to this blog. The first in the series - personals (but naturally)! I've mainly cut and paste my old comments here. Some comments may no longer be valid e.g. number of personals, regularity of update, free/paying services, user interface etc.

Yahoo Personals - Straightforward and easy to use. Matches by location, aspirations and statistics. Three thumbs up! You need to have a Yahoo account (easy to apply and free).
Apollonetwork - Apollonetwork has been around for a long time. Personals tend to be on the brief side. "Matching" ability isn't as sophisticated as Yahoo but it's totally focused on silverfoxes and their admirers.
Caffmos - I've not assessed in great detail but looks like a pain to access.
Relocate4U - The use of the search isn't very functional but it does contain a long list of personals. Friendly looking interface too.
Olderonline - Not that many personals but friendly search interface.
SeniorAdmirer - It seems to be down at the moment. My previous comments on it were "The personals are restricted to that of older men. Well-managed and easy on the eyes" but that was years back.
Ben Boxer - Also known as the silverfoxes clubhouse. Meant for silverfoxes and admirers. Has two "personals" category i.e. personal ads and profiles.
SeniorFriendFinder - Personals focused on seniors. Minimum age required 35. Very limited features if you're not a paying customer.
Match.com - Easy interface. Not very powerful search but it's convenient as it tries to seek matches and updates you through e-mail. Quite impossible to get in touch with someone if you're not on a paid service.

These are some new personals links that I've found since that really old update on the Silverfoxes Resource Page.

Silverdaddies - One of the more successful silverfox focused personals sites. Silverdaddies has an extremely large user population. You're limited to 2 outgoing messages a day for non-paying users though.
Gaydar - UK-based personals site. Has been around for quite a while too.
Fridae - Good personals site if you're into Asians. A good number of silverfoxes.
Face-pic.com - Generic personals site with a sizeable gay community. This is where I met R! Last place I expected too!
Mature Aussie Network - Mixture of personals and galleries from Down Under!

I've yet to explore these sites

[News] Middle East Peace Process

I know, this news is dated by a few days. Anyway, peace talks have resumed between Israel and Palestine. The two key players are none other than Ariel Sharon, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian National Authority.

Here's hoping that they succeed where their deceased predecessors, Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat, failed in the 1993 Oslo Accords.

Welcome to the silverfox blog!

I started the "Silverfoxes Resource Page" back in 1998. At its peak (1999 to 2002), it saw an average monthly hit rate of 60,000+. It has since tapered down to a few thousand a month as a result of my lack of time and enthusiasm in keeping the "interesting links" updated. For those who've sent me mails asking to include your links in my next update, I apologize as I have no intention of updating that page again*. I intend to leave that page as is and to focus on this blog.

I'm still feeling my way around so bear with me while I figure out this works! One thing that I have noticed, my connections and updates to the blogger times out frequently! What gives?
